The use of computer in language learning usually known as CALL is a language teaching method. CALL has been introduced in 1960 to emphasize on the communication and tasks. It can be divided into three types; Structural CALL, Communicative CALL, and Integrative CALL.

Structural CALL was designed under the influence of behaviourism by Skinner, around 1970s to 1980s. The principals of computer use are drilled, tutorial explanation, feedback and practices, where the computer was treated as a mechanical tutor.

Communicative CALL came after the existence of cognitive approach around 1980s to 1990s. Here, the principle of computer use is communicative exercises, where the computer was just the pupil since it often associated with learner-centred approach.

Integrative CALL existed when there is dissatisfaction with the communicative approach. The computer is now becoming the vehicle as a tool for interactive communication. This type of CALL is currently being used in accordance with today’s technology advancement.
